Anatomy 101

Just For Today

There are five "Reiki Ideals" That we try to incorporate in our daily lives. The first one is "Just for today I will let go of anger. It is easy to look around and see the anger evident in the world today. It starts on the daily commute to work. How many times has someone come up behind you on the highway at what seems to be 90 miles per hour, and flashed their headlights at you. If you do not get out of the way fast enough they get angry at you and shake their fist at you and make obscene gestures as you as they pass. And you get angry at them.

Look at and listen to the talk shows. Every one seems to have guests that are angry about something. Their cheating spouse, their messed up kids, the list goes on and on. On the news our government is angry at their government because they are dumping their whatever in our markets at below cost. We are angry at our neighbors because they painted their house purple and it lowers our property values.

Enough! Anger is unhealthy. It causes elevated blood pressure. It causes elevated adrenaline levels. A sign of anger is tension in our muscles. Altogether, anger has deleterious effects on the body, mind and spirit. It is a major life stressor.

Just for today, I will let go of anger. it seems so simple. You might say "I am just one person. What good would it do?". Consider this. Would you feel better if you were able to reduce the amount of stress in your life by ten percent? I know that I would. Resolve not to let the anger that surrounds you affect you. Picture yourself surrounded by a force field that the anger cannot pass through. If that visualization does not work for you, find one that does. If enough people do this, the general level of anger in our society will gradually diminish, and the overall quality of life will certainly improve. It all starts with one person. Why shouldn't that person be you.
